Question

Part 6

The 'Retail Park' at Mansfield, you can't say in Mansfield, it's miles away. Was home to all the usual stores B&Q, Dixons Marks & Sparks. It was crazy really, if you didn't like the prices in Dixons you had a look in PC World once you'd found what you wanted you went to Comet and bought it cheaper. Half the stores seemed to be in competition with the other half,

Our target was Asda's, the next hour and a bit spent pushing first one then a second trolley around the endless aisles of the food store. Carol keeping me busy fetching items and I learnt far too much about buying fruit and veg. At one point Carol loaded a large bag of apples into the trolley.

"Auntie you have loads of apples back home."

"Yes but these are for next week, they are kept cold for transport, it'll take about a week for them to ripen enough to eat." So much for buying a quick snack.

"Feeling peckish Gaby?"

"Just a little."

"Alright we'll get this lot loaded then see what we can find."

There was a Greasy Mac and Pizza Place across the carpark but we ended up in the café back in Asda.

I was just finishing my coke when Carol called a pit-stop and we made our way to the loo's.

I was drying my hands as Carol stood behind me.

"While were here lets sort this out." And she quickly removed the scarf from my head.

"What, here?" To be truthful I'd forgotten all about the curlers, with the scarf in place it felt like I'd been wearing a hat certainly no worse than my cycle helmet which was far more gaudy, larger as well.

"Why not? We're looking at clothes next and I don't think many girls would do that in curlers, you'll want to look good, not done up to the nines, but not in curlers either."

Carol was already busy taking out the curlers, putting them in her bag as she worked.

"Don't you need your brushes and things Auntie?"

 with a head of curls

"Nope, shake your head. And again, that should do it." Carol teased with her fingers for a bit, then sprayed my head with a can that had appeared from nowhere.

"Good Grief..Are you sure this will wash out Auntie?"

"Absolutely. What do you think of your Do?" I wasn't sure how to respond.

"One hell of a disguise." I eventually got out.

"So are you pleased with the result?"

I thought about it and wondered how I'd feel if Maddy wore her hair like this. There was certainly no danger of being recognised now.

"Wh, Er. Yes I suppose I do, I was just wondering how Maddy would look that's all."

"Just look in the mirror Gaby."

"Oh, yeah, you're right. Has Maddy ever...?"

"Yes they're her curlers, but I'm afraid she thinks they're too much effort. I'm sure if you asked nicely she would though. And of course you're welcome to borrow them anytime."

"What, NOOO." I yelled.

"I'm only joking Gaby, settle down."

"Oh. Sorry, you scared me then."

"Come on lets go shopping."

We made our way toward the front of the store. People were staring, at me, I was blushing furiously by the time we got to the entrance.

"What's the matter Gaby?"

"People are staring at me."

"Of course they were, Your very pretty. Were they smiling?"

"Yes, well mostly some of the men were a bit creepy though."

"The power of the curl Gabrielle, it may not move mountains but it certainly moves men."

"Oh."

Carol popped the catch on her umbrella and we headed for the car.

"Remember what I told you before we left home, head up, be confident. That lowered head routine will get you even more attention."

"Oh shit." I rushed after her, my new curls bouncing like springs. I only realised later I should have taken my time and got my hair wet.
