“Oh no! I'm not dressing as Gaby again Maddy, no matter what you say”
“Aww come on Drew it'll be a laugh at the con”, said Maddy,
“You said it would be the last time I had to dress up as Gaby at the last con we went to”, Drew moaned... “But nooooo you always change your mind! Don't you?” “Humph “, Maddy said, then pouted at Drew, hoping that it would work like it usually does , batting her eyes a little bit adding that little bit extra .
“Whyyyyy do I let her convince me to do this?, she knows full well I don't want to do it, I wonder what costumes she'll be trying to get me to wear this time?", Drew thought while sitting at the computer in Maddys room, looking through the anime pics that Maddy has on it, trying to see which one she might use.
“Maddy”,
“Yeah drew”,
“I just noticed that all the anime pics on your computer are all of female anime characters!”
“Well duh! - Course they're female characters, I'm female aren't I?”
“Oh yeah I forgot”, says drew while running to hide behind Maddys bedroom door, before she realises what he's actually just said, then realises that she's not running after him, so goes to sit on the bed next to her. No sooner had he sat down when a pillow whacks him in his face and he goes flying half way across the room,
“What's that for?” he whines while holding his nose,
“That's for saying you forgot I was female, like, god I'm only your girlfriend” replies Maddy with a somewhat angry tone in her voice and looking mean as hell.
“Hey mad”,
“WHAT” replies Maddy still angry of what drew had just said to her,
“I forgot to tell you, I've been asked to ride in the 25 in South Wales next month, I was wondering if you wanted to come and have a go?, they've asked me if I know anyone else that can ride and that will join in, in a team competition”,
“You want me to ride a 25 miles race? I've only ever done 10 miles and I was knackered after that, and YOU want me to ride in a 25?”
“I'll help you train, we've got five weeks before hand to get you used to the length, I'm sure if I ring mum that she'll let you borrow her old bike, It's hung up in the garage”,
“Your joking aren't you, she'll never agree to that” replies Maddy,
“But if I get dad on my side and speak to her also, I'm sure she'll say yes as it is in a comp, its not like she doesn't know who you are or anything”,
“Hmmm lemme think about it, It's a long ride that!, is 25 miles I don't know if I'll be able to ride that long”, Maddy says while having a very worried look on her face, As if to say nooooo way will I be able to that distance.
“Who else?” Asks Maddy,
“Who - What - Where – When - How?”
“Who else are you going to ask to do this with us?, IFFF I decide I could possibly handle the distance, boy you can be sooo dumb sometimes!, You just ask me about a ride, I ask who else your gonna ask, Then you go all weird on me, Then respond in a daft way as if you don't know what I was talking about!”,
“Sorry Mad mentioning the bike, then going to ask mum if you can borrow it got me thinking about mum that's all, god I miss her”,
“I know” says Mad while putting Drews head on her shoulder, with her arm around his back rubbing it to give him some sort of comfort.
“So who else?”
“What?”
“God drew you can be so lame sometimes! Who else to the ride?”
“Oh I was gonna ask Catrina, see if I can get hold of Josh and a few others I've met while on the rides to see if they wanted to be on my team”,
“Oh ok, err you riding as Gaby?”
“Nooooo! Your not getting me down that trail again, it's as me drew or not at all!”, “Aww poor Drewbie, you know I was kidding, come here for another cuddle”.
“Anyway I can't ask Rod as he's down there already, visiting his dad in Mfanwy mode with Ally, hold on I can get them to come cheer us on, hmm maybe in the cheerleaders outfits”,
“NO way Drew! I'm not having you leer at other girls in cheerleader outfits, If I'm not in the outfit cheering you on myself”, Maddy decides to hit drew with the pillow again just to make her point.
“I guess I better be getting home it's late, even though dad knows I'm here he still worries about me”,
“Yeah give me a kiss before you go will ya”,
“Ok”.
“Bye Mrs Peters, sorry aunt carol I'm off home ok, goodnight”,
“Good-” Carol looks closely at Drew and notices he has lipstick on, then wonders what her daughter has done to him now, “-Night Drew you want me to drive you or what?”,
“Nahh I'm on my bike! And you wouldn't get it in your car”,
“Ok then be safe and ring me when you get in so I know your home, ok?” asks Carol “No probs shouldn't take too long anyway about 5 minutes or so”.
Drew gets home and opens the garage door, safely stores his bike and locks it up, then goes in the side door to the house, making sure he's locked the garage door before he does.
“Dad I'm home”,
“Ok son, Carol rang me to tell me you'd left, she told me to remind you to ring her, let her know you got home ok”,
“God why is everyone so concerned for me nowadays?” thinks Drew,
“Hey bro nice lippy you've got on there, you been out as Gaby again?” asks Jules “Huh what? No! I haven't and what was that about lipstick?”
“Nice shade, very deep plum colour if I'm not mistaken”,
“Lemme get to a mirror Jules, I've gotta see this for myself, arghhhh she's done it again and I rode home like this, Oh no what if someone saw me, put two and two
Together and come up with five, like the Chad does by calling me Gaby, I'll never live this down”.
Brrrng – Brrrng Brr,
“Hello Peters residence Carol Peters speaking”,
“Hi Aunt Carol, just ringing like you said to let you know I'm home ok”,
“Oh thanks Drew, you know we worry about you when you bike home late”,
“Can I speak to Maddy please?”
“Yes I'll just get her for you”, 10 seconds later,
“Hi Gaby”,
“You knew didn't you? You knew I had lipstick on after you kissed me!”
“Erm, yes it was too good an opportunity to pass, I'm surprised you didn't see me put it on before you kissed me”.
“What, before I kissed you? If I remember right you asked me to kiss you, Ahhh that's why you asked me to kiss you? You knew what would happen after then didn't you?”
“Yeah sorry Drew, but like I said”,
“Sorry's NOT gonna get me noticed riding home wearing bright plum lipstick is it?, what if someone saw me and realised me and Gaby is one in the same person?”, “Look Drew its not that bad, hey it was dark, not many streetlights and its not as if someone's spying on you keeping track is it?, so I didn't think anyone would notice”, “Yeah well like I said, Its not the point, you knew what you was doing and didn't think of the consequences”.
“Sorry Drew, forgive me pleeeaaaassseeee?”
Oh god I cant say anything bad when she gets like this, “Ok apology accepted just don't do it again ok”,
“Ok Drew promise”, yeah right thought Maddy,
“You took it off yet?”
“Oh damn, nope I'm gonna take it off now then watch a bit of telly, then off to bed so night Mad”,
“Night Drew kiss kiss”,
“Hey I remember the last time you did that”,
Maddy giggles then puts the phone down, Drew puts his phone down then thinks to himself I better wash this off. Before dad sees it,
“Drew can you come in here please!”
“Yeah be there in a minute dad just grabbing a bite”, Drew goes to kitchen grabs a quick snack and eats it while going to the front room,
“Yeah dad you wanted me?”
“Yes Drew, Drew?”
“Yep”,
“Why are you wearing lipstick? Is this another Gaby thing?”
“Oh crap”, why didn't I wash this off before going to the kitchen, and why do I keep forgetting things,
“It was Maddy she kissed me before I left her house”,
“Fair enough, good explanation, Anyway I got a telephone call, well you did from Josh asking about the 25 next month in South Wales, He was wondering if you was doing it, He left his number and said if you got home before 10 to ring him and let him know ok”,
“Yeah, thanks dad I was gonna ring him anyway, but didn't have his number”.
Brrrng Brrr
“Hello”,
“Hi is that josh?”
“Yeah who's this?”
“Its Drew you rang me earlier about the 25 in Wales next month”,
“You sure it's Drew? You sound like a girl”,
“Course its Drew, Who else do you think would ring you at this time of night?”, “Huh I dunno, maybe a secret admirer of mine that I don't know about”,
“Anyway about the 25 Josh, up to now I've asked Maddy, And as long as I can get her fit enough she'll do it, Also I was wondering if you wanted to join my team that I'll be putting together?, You know I've been asked by the local UK under 16 federation to do it?”,
“No, That's great Drew, Its hard as hell to get into that place as it is, and they ask you, They must be after recruiting you or something”,
”Yeah well, I thought maybe if you wanted to join my team, then not only will they be looking at me they'll also notice you while we're riding”,
“You'd do that for me Drew?”
“Yeah, no sweat I know your good, and maybe if they're after me they'll notice you and ask you to join their ranks”.
“Drew are you gonna take that lipstick off or what?” Asks dad as he walked past Drew going to the toilet,
“Lipstick you sure this is Drew? Not a secret girl admirer I've got”,
“Shut up Josh long story, as in girlfriend – prank – lipstick on before she kisses me type”,
“Yeah that's happened to me also, Anyway yeah I'll join your team, just keep me informed of who's in it, we'll meet up in South Wales when its race time ok?”
“Yeah no probs, talk to you later Josh bye for now”, click, I guess I better wash this lipstick off, before dad has a cow and thinks I like wearing it ( shudder ), thinks Drew, perish the though, wait till I see Maddy tomorrow is she gonna pay for this!.
Next morning in the playground,
“Hey Rhod”,
“Hi Drew what's happening?”
“Well I've got this 25 in South Wales next month and I-”,
“Hold on Drew you know me and Ally's gonna my dads for a couple of weeks next month”,
“Well let me finish you idiot, I know your going there!, but the race isn't far from your dads, So I was wondering if you wanted to come and support me and Mad and Josh?, whil-”,
“Someone mention Josh?” pipes up Bernie,
“Yeah I spoke to him last night and he's gonna be in my team so”.
“I'll support you especially if Josh is going”, says Bernie,
“Can I finish talking to Rhod please Bernie? I know you like Josh, that's why I was gonna ask you! After I spoke to Rhod about cheering me on, jeesh, what is it with girls and crushes?”
“Sorry Drew, your asking the wrong person there!” says Rhod,
“Oh yeah, I forgot, anyway wanna come and give us some support then you and ally?”
“Can we wear our cheer uniforms”,
“NO! And that's from Maddy she doesn't want cheer uniformed people, cheering me unless she's one of them! I'm trying to get her to do the race”,
“You'll never get her to do that; she's never done a 25 before has she?”
“No!, but I'm gonna ask mum if, damn I forgot to ask dad last night to ring mum to find out if Mad can borrow her spare bike last night, I forgot as usual must have been the lipstick”,
“Whoa, you were wearing lipstick, last night why?”
“Errr Maddy last night, trick I fell for it, rode home with bright plum lipstick on yuck”,
“Yeah well, you will get into these situations wont you drew!”
“Not my fault! I didn't know what she was planning, Hey, I want a word with you miss Peters”,
“Oh crap, here goes”, says Maddy while trying to act all innocent,
“Drew let me know the dates so we can organise the cheering ok”,
“No probs Rhod talk later”.
“Cheering, Cheering, did I hear cheering? Is this for the race I told you I didn't want them cheering if I wasn't cheering also?”
“Chill Maddy, It's just a figure of speech he's not gonna wear the uniform, I told him you wouldn't allow that”,
“Ok, that's fine so did you ring your mum?”
“No, I forgot, I'll mention it to dad tonight see if he can get hold of her, I think she's doing time trials all week, so someone should know where she is and pass on a message to ring home”,
“Good cos I'm not gonna ride it unless I have a descent bike! That thing I have isn't gonna last 25 miles”,
“Ok, like I said I'll ask dad when I get home, damn bell gone we better get to class”, “Ok”, Great he's forgot what he was gonna say to me, I'm glad I can distract him sooo easily!, I'm getting either too good at this, Or he's getting worse at remembering things.
In assembly Drews standing beside Maddy and listening to the headmaster go on about the lousy football team as usual, when he realises that he can't hear him anymore,
“Cool”, thinks Drew, I can't hear him drone on anymore, I'll have to remember this trick when I can figure out how I did it”.
“Oh god Maddy hold me please”, Drew gets out before he hits the ground, then whacks his head on the floor as he makes contact,
“Oh my god, Drew, Drew answer me Drew”, Maddy screams for a teacher to come and help, while she's overlooking Drew sprawled out on the floor, the English teacher comes through to see what one of the pupils is screaming about, notices Drew laid out on the floor, then asks the headmaster to end assembly so they can deal with the problem.
As assembly is leaving the hall, Jules notices Drew flat on his back and pushes through the crowd,
“Oh no, don't tell me he's keeled over again, hold on why isn't he moving?”
One of the teachers mentions Drew may be unconscious, But isn't sure so they send for the school nurse, As the school nurse arrives she sees Drew on the floor, then asks what happened, And they all start to speak at once, Which gets her confused so she looks at Maddy and asks her,
“I don't know!, One minute he's standing there, the next he practically screams at me to hold him, then oomph he's on the floor and I hear a loud crack, I think he's hit his head”.
“Well he's my brother, He's collapsed a few times over the last few months, my dads been taking him to the doc's to find out what the problem might be”,
“Tell me he's going to be alright pleasseee”, Maddy sobs while looking at Drew,
“I don't know, I think he's either unconscious, or knocked himself out when his head hit the floor”, Replies the nurse,
“Lets get him to the nurses station so I can check him out, then we'll go from the, ok”,
The head then picks Drew up and carries him to aforementioned room and lays him down on the table,
“Hmm, I think well try smelling salts first”,
As the nurse goes to the cabinet and gets some out, the nurse rips a packet open, puts it under Drew's nose, then all of a sudden, Drew jumps up, runs over to the toilet, then proceeds to fill the toilet with all his breakfast he had in the morning.
“Drew you ok?”
“Urgggghhhhhh”,
“Drew, I'd like for you to answer me please, do you know where you are?”
“Huh - ‘pause' Oh I'm at school”,
“Ok Drew, can you tell me what happened?”
“I dunno, One minute I'm listening to the head rabbit on about the lousy fo-”, “DREW, that's enough of that language here, If you don't mind”, the head half shouted out,
“–otball, sorry sir”,
“Go on drew”,
“Well, like I said I was listening to the head go on about that, then next I couldn't hear him, then I screamed something at Maddy that's the last I know”.
“Well, It looks like you just fainted, I'll give you a check over and then send you home, is there anyone in the house?”
“No”, replies Jules,
“Dads at work, But I can ring him and get him to come and pick Drew up, If you'd like me to? I'm just glad he's ok”,
“Ok then, you said he's done this before”,
“Yeah! He's seeing the doctor and he's on pills for it”,
“Juuuulles”,
Says Drew while going bright red, then proceeding to tell the nurse what pills they are.
“But aren't these pills for girls? When Th ---“,
“No they aren't!” replies Drew,
Then the nurse sees exactly how red Drews face has gone and decides to drop the subject.
“Can I use the phone to phone dad? Get him to pick drew up”,
“Just this way please”, replies the head, while they both head off down the hall, “Drew, you gave me a right scare just dropping next to me like that”, screams Maddy,
“Sorry mad, it happened all of a sudden; I'm supposed to go back to the docs when he gets my results back”,
“Well, As long as you're ok, I mean that was one hell of a crack I heard when you head hit the floor!”
“Tell me about it, I can still feel it”,
“Ok dad I'll let them know, I just spoke to dad! He said he'll be here in about 30 minutes ok?”
”Thanks Julia I'll keep him in the nurses station until he gets here, I'd like a word with him when he arrives ifs that's ok?”
45 minutes pass and Mr Bond arrives at the school, the head sees him arrive and goes over to talk to him,
“Ahhh Mr Bond”,
“Dave please”,
“No, I'll use Mr Bond while we are on school premises, all official and what not” “Ok, how's my son?”
“That's what I would like to talk to you about Mr Bond, do you have 5 minutes? Drew is in the nurse's station and he'll stay there until then”.
“Hi son, how you doing? What's this I hear about you collapsing again?”
“Sorry dad, it wasn't my fault”,
“Well, let's get you home ok and see what I can do with you”,
“Ok dad”.
As Dave Bond gets home, he gets out the car with Drew following, goes to open the front door and as he steps in he sees an envelope just inside,
“Hey Drew, you wanna go and sit in the front room and put telly on while I see what mails come ok”,
“Yeah, alright dad”, as Drew goes in the front room, sits down and puts the telly on, his dad comes through and sits down,
“Drew”,
“Yeah dad”,
“This is a letter from your doctor! Your results are in and he'd like us to make an appointment as soon as possible, the sooner the better he says”.
“Oh god dad, what's wrong?, they never ask you to go in or ring and make an appointment that quick after getting results back, you know I hate doctors and hospitals!, what's wrong with me dad what's gonna happen?”,
“He doesn't say, all he's put in the note is make an appointment as soon as possible, I'll go call see if I can find anything out, It'll be alright Drew whatever it is we'll manage”,
Drew sighs then groans.
“Yes it's Mr Bond here, I've had a letter from yourselves regarding my son, to make an appointment as soon as possible”,
“Oh yes Mr Bond, I'll transfer you to the doctor immediately, he's been expecting your call”,
Oh god, If he's been expecting my call, there's definitely a problem, I better not let Drew know just yet, thinks Dave.
“Ah Mr Bond, I've been expecting your call, I have an available slot at about 3 pm this afternoon, I was wondering if you could bring young Andrew in?, So we may discuss the results of the tests he's had”,
“Can't you tell me a little while were on the phone now?”
“No, sorry Mr Bond, I'd prefer to wait until your both here and sat in my office”, “Ok then, we'll be there at 3pm.
“Drew, we've got an appointment at 3 this afternoon, they had a slot spare and he'd like us to pop in”,
“What's wrong dad?, Its gotta be bad if he wants us in, this afternoon”, Drew starts to worry and starts crying, Dave sits down next to him, puts his hand over Drews shoulder and comforts his son,
“It'll be alright Drew, whatever it is we'll get through it”.
At about 2.20 pm Mr Bond sets off with Drew to go to the doctors, while on the way Drew starts worrying again and starts to cry, Mr Bond puts his hand on Drews leg and pats it ,
“It'll be fine son, trust me!”
2.45 pm they arrive at the docs, Drew looks out the window hoping he can make a quick run for it, but knows he'll eventually have to see the doc, so he goes in anyway just to get it out of the way.
3pm comes round, the receptionist calls for Drew and his dad to go into the Doctors office,
“First door on the right, after the double swing doors in front of you”.
“Ah Mr Bond, Andrew, please take a seat I'll be with you in a moment while I just get the results out of my drawer”,
As Drew and his dad sit down Drew starts to worry again, the doctor retrieves the test results then turns around to Drew and his dad.
“Well, these were definitely some of the most strangest results I've ever seen, Mr Bond and Andrew, Id like to discuss them, And some options that I have looked at If I may?”.
