Drew meets Angel
Part 3
Putting It All together
He Knows!
Mr. Johnston and Angel were reviewing all the latest when they looked at each other. Angel realized the hidden meaning behind this latest revelation.
She looked Mr Johnston in the eyes as she sat back, folded her hands on her lap and calmly asked him.
“When were you going to tell me you know about my past Mr. Johnston?”
“Angel, it's not like that at all really. The Sentinal already had you on the list for employment here. It wasn't until I did the deeper background check on you that some very interesting questions developed. I always do a deeper background check on those who are going to be working for me.”
Mr. Johnston reached over and took Angel's hands in his; he looked her straight in the eyes and smiled.
“Ms O'Hare, remember, knowing this did not prevent me from offering you this position and better still, giving you this assignment a few of my other reporters would kill to get. No, on the other hand, I want you to know that I am the only one here that has this information. I warn you though, I found out and a few others here will probably do a similar background check on you. It is just a matter of time before word gets out. I think it would be in your best interest and mine if you attend the next board meeting tomorrow morning. All those who can, and will learn about you will be there. What you say and how you say it is very important. What do you say we go get some breakfast?”
Angel, was reassured by Mr Johnston's words and smiled, squeezing his hands in acceptance. With smiles on their faces, and as others watched Mr Johnston help Angel gather a few thick folders, they walked out together and disappeared into the elevator.
Mr. Johnston took out his mobile and pressed a button. In seconds, a female voice answered “Yes, Sir?”
“Karen, I need the car at the West entrance. I need some breakfast, the regular place will do.”
Mr Johnston and Angel continued walking and talking. Soon they were once again laughing and giggling. Of course, you know who was giggling. Angel never laughed; all she could do was giggle. It had been this way ever since she was a little boy and continues to this day, just go and ask those who know her.
As they exited the West entrance, Karen was there holding the back door open for them. She smiled as she heard them laughing and giggling. She had never seen Mr Johnston this happy before. Karen had to find out who this very pretty young thing with her boss was.
Angel smiled at Karen, extended a hand in greeting; “Hello, I'm Angel.”
This had never happened before! Karen was speechless for a second, and then took Angel's hand and replied. “Um, hello Miss Angel, my name is Karen. I'm Mr Johnston's driver.”
Angel giggled which started Mr Johnston laughing again.
“Hello Karen, and it's not Miss Angel, just Angel.” With that said, Angel ducked her head and slid into the limousine.
Mr Johnston smiled at Karen “I'm still Mr Johnston” He chuckled, Karen laughed, and of course Angel giggled.
Breakfast
Soon they were in the ritzy section of the city and pulled up to one of the better hotels. A doorman came and opened Angel's door, Mr Johnston slid out behind Angel. With each of them holding a thick folder, they entered the hotel as the doors were opened by another doorman. Mr Johnston led the way as they turned right and headed to an elevator. The lobby of this hotel was not very busy this early, everyone there seemed to know Mr Johnston as one greeting after another, given in a welcoming manner ended with a “Mr J.”
There was a pretty woman dressed rather smartly in a stylish uniform. Tailored and form fitting to say the least. She was blonde, in her late twenties if one were to try to guess. Everything about her was perfect, from her hair and make-up, to her posture and smile. Turns out, her job was to escort them to the restaurant via the elevator. She greeted Mr. Johnston by name and introduced herself to Angel.
“Hello, my name is Alysson.” As she extended her hand and smiled.
“Hi Alysson, I'm Angel.”
They shook hands with Angel returning her warm smile.
“We have your private dining room ready Mr J, and your waitress this morning will be Samantha. I know you both will like her, but be warned, she is a bit boyish.”
This set Angel giggling and Mr Johnston chuckling. Alysson looked at them questioningly.
“It's a private joke Alysson, I'm sure Samantha will be fine, boyish or not.”
“Ok, Mr J just wanted to be sure you are happy with our service and staff.”
“I haven't been disappointed yet Alysson, I am sure Angel will enjoy the service and the food as I will.”
“Thank you Sir, please follow me.”
They exited the elevator and proceeded down a plush carpeted and richly decorated hallway. They came to a set of double doors, which Alysson pushed open to reveal a very posh dining room. Pictures on the walls revealed this room to be a haven for Sentinal VIPs. Not only VIPs, but also celebrity sports persons as well. Everything in this room from the furniture to even the place settings shouted Sentinal! Their logo was on everything; even the carpeting had the logo as part of its design. Off to one side was another large flat table. It was set up for what appeared to be signing contracts and such.
Their server Samantha then greeted Mr Johnston and Angel. They took their seats, but first Mr Johnston helped Angel with her chair. Oh, what a gentleman, thought Angel as she let a soft giggle escape.
Samantha took the folders from them both and placed them on the other table. She then poured Mr Johnston a black coffee and then approached Angel.
Angel was busy studying Samantha as she was pouring the coffee and noted a few things. Samantha's hair was in a boy cut. Her uniform was that of a male waiter, as were her shoes and socks. She carried herself in an obvious male way including her walk.
“Would you like some coffee Ms?”
“It's just Angel Sam, no Ms needed.”
“Thank you Angel and Sam ‘is' perfect for me.”
Sam chuckled, Mr Johnston laughed and Angel giggled.
Sam's smile got even bigger then as she asked Angel once again about her coffee.
“Oh Sam, do you have any flavoured creamer?”
“What flavour would you like Angel?”
“Southern Butter Pecan, please.”
“It will take but a minute to get.”
Sam then poured Angel's coffee leaving enough room for the creamer. She left for just about a minute's time when she returned with it.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Each of the department heads for the Sentinal was hard at work. The rumours and the facts that they had heard and gathered since this new reporter's arrival made them nervous. Mr Johnston is well known for instantly replacing people who cross him, or even fail to carry out his directives. They also knew Mr Johnson would no doubt be replacing the CEO at headquarters. They could ill afford to not be prepared and forewarned of anything Mr Johnston was planning.
